Clamping ensures the workpiece is properly supported and pressed against its reference surface.
Full support: longer flexible parts are tensioned so the workpiece sits flat on the datum face.
Clamping and positioning: rigid sections clamp and position the workpiece. Toothed jaws are designed to "bite" into the material, pressing the workpiece firmly onto the datum face while providing high pull-out resistance.
